WA: Federal Labor leader marches for reconciliation
Federal Labor leader KIM BEAZLEY says the movement for reconciliation has moved out
of the hands of politicians and into the hands of the people of Australia.
Mr BEAZLEY spoke to reporters before joining his parents and tens of thousands of others
for a reconciliation march in Perth today.
He says that more people are now behind reconciliation, but it's still important for
politicians to realise they have a responsibility to reconciliation in Australia.
Also marching today was Western Australian Premier RICHARD COURT, former high court
judge Sir RONALD WILSON who wrote a report on the stolen generation, and WA opposition
leader GEOFF GALLOP.
The march, which co-incided with similar marches in Port Hedland and Melbourne, came
several months after reconciliation walks attracted hundreds of thousands of people in
Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart.
