FED: Moore announces unit rotations for East Timor

CANBERRA, Feb 4 AAP - Brisbane-based 6 Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR)
will head for East Timor later this year, Defence Minister John Moore announced today.

Mr Moore said 6RAR will relieve 5/7 RAR in East Timor at the end of April.

This will be 6RAR's first operational service since Vietnam.

The unit is famous for the battle of Long Tan in August 1966, when the 100 soldiers
of Delta company fought off massed Viet Cong attacks, inflicting 245 casualties for the
loss of 17 killed and 21 wounded.
