NSW: No second Sydney airport needed for 20 yrs - Brogden

New South Wales Opposition leader JOHN BROGDEN says Sydney does not need another airportfor at least 20 years.

Mr BROGDEN says it's important to extract as much value as possible out of the existingairport at Mascot by boosting its capacity before a second airport is considered.

Mr BROGDEN has also ruled out support for relaxing the curfew that prevents aircrafttaking off or landing between 11pm and 6am.

Yesterday, Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD said Sydney is not likely to ever need a second airport.

His comments are a further blow to people living under noisy aircraft flight paths, coming just weeks after Labor promised not to build a second airport at Badgerys Creek.
