NSW: Howard says Carr will sell power industry

WILLIAMTOWN, NSW, April 15 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today said the newly-elected
New South Wales ALP government would sell the state's electricity industry despite having
campaigned against power privatisation.

Mr Howard said he believed the electricity industry would be sold in the next fixed
four-year term of government in NSW.

"It's a fairly old argument, but I made a prediction a couple of weeks ago that sometime in
the life of the re-elected Labor government in NSW, it would get around to privatising
electricity," he told reporters here.

"It should because its a sensible long-term policy, but I don't think it will happen for a
few months.

"I predict it will happen sometime in the next four years."

He yesterday denied the NSW coalition lost the March 27 election because of its support for
power privatisation.
