Vic: Men face double the risk of death from skin cancer

Men over 60 are more than twice as likely to die from skin cancer than women of the same age.

New figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare .. show the number
of Victorian men diagnosed with malignant melanoma .. has increased by more than 30 per
cent for those between 60 and 80.

Associate Professor JOHN KELLY .. who heads up the Victorian Melanoma Service .. says
aggressive nodular melanomas are often diagnosed far too late for life-saving surgery.





He says it's a wake-up call to older men to be vigilant .. and get regular check-ups.
