VIC: DPP Paul Coghlan appointed a Supreme Court judge

MELBOURNE, Aug 7 AAP - Victoria's Director of Public Prosecutions Paul Coghlan, QC,
has been appointed a Supreme Court judge.

Deputy Premier and Attorney-General Rob Hulls announced Mr Coghlan's appointment today,
saying he would make a significant contribution to the justice system.

"For the past six years, Mr Coghlan has been the Director of Public Prosecutions, and
Chief Crown Prosecutor for seven years preceding that," Mr Hulls said.

"Mr Coghlan has a highly impressive resume and will make a significant contribution
to the Supreme Court," he said.

Mr Hulls also announced the appointments of Ross Robson, QC, and John Forrest, QC,
as Supreme Court judges.

Mr Robson was a highly-skilled barrister who has 34 years in the legal profession, Mr Hulls said.

Mr Forrest, who had 32 years' experience as a barrister and solicitor, is vice-chairman
of the Common Law Bar Association and a member of the Supreme Court Litigation Committee.

"Mr Forrest brings diverse experience to the Supreme Court, having practised in the
County Court, the Court of Appeal and the High Court," Mr Hulls said.

Mr Hulls also announced the elevation of Justice Julie Dodds-Streeton to the Court of Appeal.

"Justice Dodds-Streeton has been a judge of the Supreme Court for the last five years,
and has many years' experience as a barrister and senior university lecturer in law,"

Mr Hulls said.

"She will bring enormous experience and expertise to the Court of Appeal."
